Have you ever felt stuck, confused, worried, or that your life or our world is off-track? This simple wisdom keeps me motivated on the days I am feeling overwhelmed and have no enthusiasm for what comes next. It is likely a mantra for many of you already, but it is fairly new to me. I found it reading some books on faith recently. The context provided by these two writers (shared below) has helped change my mindset. Wishing you joy in doing the next right thing, whatever that is for you!
“Usually if you pray from the heart, you get an answer—the phone rings or the mail comes, and light gets in through the cracks, so you can see the next right thing to do. That’s all you need” -Anne Lamott, Plan B, Further Thoughts on Faith
“Whenever you get into a funk, just do the next right thing. And keep doing the next right thing. You will be amazed at how quickly you work yourself out of the funk if you approach it in this way. Don’t worry about next week, or next month, or next year…by simply doing the next right thing, you will move from confusion to clarity, from misunderstanding to insight, from despair to hope and from darkness to light, and discover your truest self, the unique person God designed you to be.” -Matthew Kelly, Perfectly Yourself
